Total Money Makeover

Okay so I didn't think I would ever do this, but I broke down and bought the Dave Ramsey book "Total Money Makeover." I got a gift card for my birthday and Jeff and I were at Barnes and Noble last weekend and had heard great things about this book so I bought it. I never thought the total money makeover would work for us since we are not good at following directions especially with money. I had really good intentions for Jeff and I to read this book together. I opened it up and even read the first 2-3 chapters aloud while lying in bed. Note to self - don't read aloud while lying in bed...one or both might fall asleep. Everyone tells me how this is so good and it really helps them out with finances, but I just don't see how it is possible for our particular family. Maybe I need to read a little more to figure out how the process really works.

On a side note Jeff and I on the drive home the night of buying the book had a great discussion about money and how each of us spend and why we spend the way we do. I think it was helpful especially since it all goes back to either before we met each other or while we were dating. If only we new the outcome of spending money we didn't have before we did it.

I am not saying I won't finish the book, but its really frustrating when I had hopes of both Jeff and I reading it together and feeling like he isn't as excited as I am about it. He did say on our drive that talking about money makes him really depressed and worried about the future. I am not a worrier so it is really hard to understand. Hopefully I will have a good update once I finish the book :) Wish me luck!!

There are SO MANY books I've wanted to read with Dave! I've learned that more times than not I just need to tell him what I learned from them...frustrating, yes, but this way you can strongly emphasize the things you agree with (and omit those you don't!)

Jeremy never read the book either but I did and thought it was great. I was a little skeptcial going in, but it really makes sense and gets you excited to be debt free. Not that we're close, but hopefully someday! Good luck! Keep me posted on what you think of the book.

Love you honesty about money. My husband and I have been married almost 38 years. I didn't realize how the book reports we gave while growing up in elementary and secondary school would come in handy for a marriage. WE don't read the same stuff, but we do like hearing from each other - so we give each other book reports. Maybe you can do the same with your hubby once you read Ramsey's book. By the way - talk about momney depresses me too! You hubby isn't alone on that note.
