The Fiddler on the Roof

Last night I went with 2 of my co-workers to see the play "The Fiddler on the Roof"!! It was a great performance! If you have ever seen the movie you have seen the main character Tevye played by Topol. Topol is now 73 years old and still acting as the main character Tevye. He did an amazing job. Hilarious!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZX-zTAgK5HA&feature=related here is a link to a YouTube video of Topol in "Fiddler on the Roof"

As you all know it snowed like mad yesterday and many had a rough commute home well I am happy to say I was not one of those. I stayed at work until about 4:30pm then went over to my co-worker Patty's house and then we met up with Julie at Rock bottom Brewery and ate dinner before the show. We were eating our apps and I saw a bunch of people run past the first window and down the other side of the building on Hennepin Ave which is a one way. I then saw an undercover SUV drive the opposite way down Hennepin to catch the perps. There was much commotion within the restaurant about what had happened and we never did really find out. We did however see a bunch of cops on foot in cars and a paddy wagon. It was exciting! After dinner and the performance I picked up my car at Patty's and drove home. I got home around 11:30pm and was back on the rode this morning at 7:00am. It was a great night and the fun part was Jeff was home all day and night with Jackson because we had no daycare yesterday. I asked Jeff if he would be a stay at home Dad and he said it would be great!! Only until Jackson was in one of his moods then he would really see what it is all about. :)

A couple of reasons why I am not a stay at home Mom

Yesterday I had the day off work for Presidents Day. Here is why you will see I go to work and enjoy it. Jackson woke up at 5:00am so I let him cry for a while in his bed hoping he would go back to sleep. No such luck. I brought him in our bedroom and turned on "The Wiggles" which seemed to tide him over for a little while. He can open doors so he was in and out of the bedroom and got pretty bored so I got up with him around 7:00am and gave him some breakfast. The morning was going okay and he took a pretty good nap after being up so early. I got ready for the day, took a shower, ate lunch and read a little. Jackson woke up and was really crabby (not good) I made him some lunch, put him in his chair and he threw everything on the floor. I tried giving him juice that ended up on the floor too. I had to run to the mall and see if I could find Jeff's anniversary gift so I threw a granola bar and juice in his diaper bag and headed to the car. Jackson really likes to walk to the car himself so I let him walk around outside then put him in the car only to listen to him scream the whole way to the mall and into the mall.

My first mistake was that I didn't realize the mall had this indoor playground thing. We walked past it and Jackson didn't really seem to care (great I thought), I went into Herberger's and they didn't have what I was looking for so we walked to the pet store to look at the puppies. Jackson thought it was great! I figured since he was being pretty good I would let him play at that play area. We walked back to it and I took his shoes off and let him go. After about 2 mins of him standing in one spot and taking it all in, he decided he was done and ran out of the play area down the mall screaming NOOOOO and yelling HEIDI (his daycare ladies name) I am now running after him and probably looking like such a fool. He started to flop around and scream louder. At that point I was done, so I got him back in the stroller and we headed for the car.

We got in the car Jackson screaming and kicking his shoes off. Next we had to go grocery shopping (oh joy I thought). We got to Cub and I thought it would be a good idea to get one of those carts with the car at the front of it. I put Jackson in with the diaper bag next to him and started to shop. He was good for a little while until he started to scream and yell and turn around while buckled in then start banging his head on the steering wheel. I tried to ignore it thinking he would stop. After about 5 mins and others in the store giving me dirty looks I stopped, turned him around and kept going. I went down the ice cream isle which no one else was down and the moment Jackson had stopped screaming I hear these two old hags (yes hags) say to each other " I wish we hadn't come down the isle with the screaming kid" I turned around and gave the dirtiest look possible. They sure did shut their mouths quick. Since Jackson was still screaming I took him out of the car part and put him in the front by me and gave him a granola bar. I was now in a huge hurry thinking it was only mins before Jackson would start screaming again so I just got the basics. However, I had to go down this one isle that was pretty packed full of people so I took my time with the "beast" of a cart and waited patiently for all to move. There was this little old woman who was going pretty slow and I was walking behind her and didn't realize how close I was with "the beast" of a cart and hit the back of her ankle. I felt terrible she didn't say anything as I apologized she just hobbled away. The poor woman will probably have a huge bruise because of me :(

We finally got to the check out and Jackson is now pulling off all the magazines from the end cap as I am trying to load the groceries on the belt. I had had it by now so I put them back and pushed the cart into an open area so he would have nothing to touch and finished with the groceries.

Later that night before bed Jackson went over to the gate at the top of the stairs tried putting on his snow pants and coat and said, "I'm going bye" the little stinker, I guess he had had a rough day too :)

Jackson and the refrigerator

The other night I was making dinner and Jackson was frustrated cuz I wasn't paying attention to him (go figure). He learned how to open the refrigerator some time ago and we've discouraged it since last time he pulled out the Brita water pitcher and dumped the whole thing on the floor (it was full):)
Anyway, as I was cutting up the food and stirring the hamburger I turned around and saw him in the fridge. I noticed he wasn't playing with the water so I let him play so I could finish making dinner. He kept opening the fridge and closing the fridge then walking over to the table and back and forth. I decided to watch for a little while. This is what I witnessed...He was taking out all the condiments (ketchup, BBQ sauce, Hersey's syrup etc...) and putting them on the table. He lined each condiment up on the table until they were all out then he would put them back in the fridge. The only bad part to this was he was putting each condiment in his mouth and sucking on the tops before putting them back.

I have pictures, but I am at work so I will post them later. I did wipe off the tops of each condiment in case you were worried about that!! Too funny! I guess kids really do copy just what mommy and daddy do!

Spanish

The company I work for is a Non-Profit organization (Partnership Resources, Inc.) that has been around since 1961. The make up of our corporate office is Norm our CEO, Julie COO, Patty Executive Assistant and Me the Operations and Billing Specialist. There are other tiers of people but this is just the makeup of the office I work in.

So, the CEO Norm was in Guatemala for the whole month of January (a pleasure trip, nice huh). Well leading up to his trip he would talk to all three of us in Spanish and it got pretty annoying, but I went with the flow. I mistakenly told him I took 5 years of Spanish in High School and went to Mexico on a missions trip for 4 weeks in 2001. After that He would constantly talk to me in Spanish. I never had the chance to explain that I can understand it but can't reciprocate back since it has been so long since I used it.

Well today was his first day back from the trip and the first thing he says to me is something in Spanish. I kind of just looked at him and didn't say anything. I got busted, (I must have looked so confused) he said did you just understand what I said. I looked at him, (hoping by the look on my face that he would know I had no idea) and said no not really. I think it crushed him. He told me he was thinking I knew more Spanish and that he would be able to talk to me in Spanish to keep him up to speed with it. Oh crap, way to go Heather...I explained how it's been a while and I can usually understand what people are saying, but not talk back in Spanish. He understood, but I feel so stupid. It was one of those awkward, um... what do I say to not look stupid times in life.
I am not a liar and do not appreciate those that do lie to make themselves look better so I wasn't going to do that. I guess I am glad he knows that I am not good at Spanish so he will hopefully stop talking to me in Spanish. Ha ha ha!!
